Being A One Community Member
One Community is a charitable foundation for the Kirklees area. Our object is to inspire companies and individuals to build an endowment to invest in local community groups, and to build strong, vibrant and self-reliant communities.
Our values are:
- Trust and professionalism
- Efficient and effective use of funding
- We know our communities
- We invest in our communities
We are looking for people who share these values to join us as members of the foundation. If you, like us, want to bring our communities together, with local giving supporting local needs, this is a great opportunity to get involved.
Foundation members will come from across the communities of Kirklees. Some will be from community groups, some will be in business or the public service, but all will share a determination to inspire local giving.
Members will be the lifeblood of the foundation. A small board of trustees will carry the legal responsibilities and manage the trust funds in accordance with the requirements of the Charity Commissioners, but it will be members who bring knowledge of the local communities, bring in new donors, help to decide where the funding goes, and have the power to approve the trustees reports and proposals at annual meetings. The term of membership is for 3 years and may be renewed.
As a member of One Community, you will:
- Be enthusiastic about building funding for local needs
- Participate in foundation events
- Contribute your knowledge of your local community and potential sources of funds
- Be willing to take part in the foundation's work, for example grant appraisal panels, visiting community projects, fundraising or administration
- Attend and vote at the annual and other general meetings
- Tell other people what the foundation is about and build support for its work
